Dear friends in Blogville.
I just want to tell you that Vaks is no more. He got sick 14 days ago, but when he had just been vaccinated, we thought it was probably the vaccine that caused him to throw up and get a little smattered.
After a few days it went over, but he did not become his old self. He gradually became more sad and quiet, so yesterday we went to the vet with him because his hind leg gave up so he was falling
He got blood samples taken and we were also delevered a urine test. The vet could see that something was wrong in his his blood but could not see why. He got some prednisolone and also cheerred up a little, but this morning he was weak again. We talked to the vet again, who said that they could do an ultrasound scan of his organs. Here they found both a tumor in the spleen and gallstones in the gallbladder. They could not determine if it was the tumor or gallstones that gave him trouble, but they could see that he was in pain.
He got an analgesic injection, and we went home with painkillers and prednisolon so he could handle the weekend and then they would decide what to do.
Here a few hours after we got home, he was so bad that he did not respond to anything. Laika was several times over by him and puffed a little to him, but he lay on the floor and did not move. We called the veterinarian emergency aid, because our vet was obviously closed in the meantime and the new vet said we could bring him. He was unable to stand upright or to walk when we left home again.
She examined him and we had to acknowledge that he was much more ill than we had thought. He had always had a bad temper if some strangers wanted to see him in his mouth or, take his temperature, but he was totally indifferent. He was just lay apathetic.
We then had to make the heavy decision together with the vet that he should be allowed to get peace.
We have been grateful for the 3 lovely years we got with him and he managed to experience life as a country dog instead of being a city dog in an apartment on the 2nd floor in Copenhagen, together with his disabled father.
Laika is extremely sad like us and she is looking around for him, and right now she is lying exactly where Vaks lay before we went to the vet.
Now I want to pause the blog. Thank you all.
